2022 Community Impact Campaign

2022 has been “the year of inflation” and it’s being felt by all of us. From fuel prices to food costs, budgeting can be a struggle, especially for those in need. 235,000 Canadians a year experience homelessness. Many of them find it not just difficult to make ends meet, but even to fill their stomachs. Food banks and soup kitchens are seen as a welcome respite to the Canadian homeless, especially as the cost of living continues to soar due to inflation. The numbers say it all. There’s been a 35% increase in the use of food banks in the last two years alone (since 2020), and more than 33% of those who benefit from food banks are children.

To give you an idea of how widespread the problem truly is, consider this: in March 2022 alone, 4,045, 013 food bank meals were served to the Canadian needy- in just one month! The underserved’s reliance on charitable organizations to help them get by and even to survive is critical. Yet those very organizations also feel the trickle-down effect of inflation – greatly impacting their ability to serve those who need support.

At Innovation, giving back to the communities we serve is a strong core pillar of our ethos. Our Community Impact Campaign supports outstanding local registered charitable organizations dedicated to making a difference. This year, our campaign is focused on food banks and organizations with meal programs. We’re thrilled to share more about the Innovation Federal Credit Union Community Impact Campaign including our goals, donations, and the organizations we have partnered with.

Our Goal:

Our goal is to donate 10,000 meals to those who are underserved in Canada. We donated $50,000 to ten registered organizations who are truly making a difference in the community.

With food costs soaring and inflation on the rise, we want to do our part. And as an Innovation member, you’re helping!
